The UK had a strong presence with 17 films in official selections of the Berlinale this year.
Wes Anderson’s UK/Germany/USA co-production The Grand Budapest Hotel received the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.
Following its world premiere in competition at the Berlinale, the buzz around Yann Demange’s debut feature ’71 (pictured) has been electrifying and it was honoured with a special mention from the independent jury awards.
There was further success for UK film with John Michael McDonagh’s Calvary named best in the Panorama section. Petros Silvestros’ Mike was awarded a Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film by the Youth Jury in the Competition Generations 14plus – the first time a UK filmmaker has won this award!
Special congratulations to Ken Loach who picked up an honorary Golden Bear and George MacKay who was named the UK’s Shooting Star.
