UK Films heading to Berlinale 2017

An exciting and varied array of UK films and co-productions are in selection for the 67th Berlinale.

In the Competition line-up we’re looking forward to the world premiere of Sally Potter’s The Party which features a stellar cast including; Timothy Spall, Kristen Scott Thomas and Cillian Murphy. Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy’s House starring Hugh Bonneville and Gillian Anderson, Stanley Tucci’s Final Portrait will screen out of competition along with the hotly anticipated T2 Trainspotting (Danny Boyle) which reunites the original 1995 cast including Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Johnny Lee Miller and Ewan Bremmer.

Francis Lee’s God’s Own Country, which premiered at Sundance in January, will screen in the Panorama category and in the Panorama Documentary strand we look forward to Andrea Luka Zimmerman’s Erase and Forget. Philipp Kadelbach’s SS-GB, starring Sam Riley features in the Berlinale Special category and Michael Winterbottom’s documentary On the Road will screen in Generation. Almost Heaven (Carol Salter) and Butterfly Kisses (Rafael Kapelinski) will screen as part of the Generation 14Plus line-up and are each nominated for the Glashütte Original Documentary Award and the GWFF Best First Feature Award respectively. In the Forum Expanded category expect to see The Welfare of Tomás Ó Hallissy(Duncan Campbell), Asbestos (Sasha Litvintseva & Graeme Arnfield) and When Things Occur (Oraib Toukan).

George Orwell’s infamous 1984 (Michael Anderson) will screen as part of the Berlinale Retrospective, and in the Berlinale Classics we look forward to James Ivory’s Maurice, starring Hugh Grant.
