World premieres from Clio Barnard, Joanna Hogg, Andrea Arnold, Eva Husson, Mark Cousins and more
Nine UK feature films and two shorts have been announced in selection for Cannes Film Festival 2021 from 6-17 July.
Mark Cousins' final chapter in his documentary series, The Story of Film: a New Generation, will have an exclusive screening for the launch of the Official Selection on 6 July. A second Mark Cousins documentary The Storms of Jeremy Thomas, celebrating the life and times of the legendary UK producer, will screen in Cannes Classics.
UK titles announced for new section Cannes Premiere are world premieres of Cow, the new documentary from acclaimed director Andrea Arnold, and Mothering Sunday, the latest feature from Eva Husson with a screenplay by Alice Birch.
Screening in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2021 are highly anticipated world premieres of UK films; Joanna Hogg’s semi-autobiographical The Souvenir Part II, following her acclaimed 2019 film The Souvenir, which will get a special screening, and Ali & Ava, written and directed by Clio Barnard.
Cannes Classics features the BFI National Archive’s 4K remastering of Peter Wollen’s Friendship’s Death (1987), as well as restored 1945 Powell & Pressburger classic I Know Where I’m Going! (1945).
Short films screening include Diego Marcon’s The Parents’ Room in selection for Directors’ Fortnight Shorts, and NFTS graduate Lina Kalcheva’s Other Half screening in Cinéfondation 2021.
